They're Our Wild Neighbors
But the City of Pittsburgh traps thousands of them every year as a quick fix solution
It's inhumane, fiscally irresponsible and socially unequitable
It's time for real solutions, for everyone
The Killing of Wildlife is Funded by Our Tax Dollars with No Justification Required, and it's Been Going on for Decades.
Find out more about why and how we can stop this |
Scrap the TrapScrap the Trap is a wildlife campaign working to stop the unjustified killing of wildlife in the City of Pittsburgh. Every year, thousands of animals in Pittsburgh are killed by Animal Control without reason, and we're working to stop that.
But we also believe that this goes beyond being a wildlife issue. Despite our logo, for many people, resolving wildlife conflicts requires a lot more than just putting a lid on trash cans... In Pittsburgh, it's a social justice issue too. While our research shows that the majority of trap requests come from affluent districts near to parks, low-income residents facing house repair issues or living near abandoned houses that become wildlife magnets are being given "band-aids" in the form of traps, rather than lasting solutions to the problems they are dealing with. It's unjust, inhumane and from a wildlife biology viewpoint, it's illogical. Get InvolvedStay updated on events we hold and get involved by attending and sharing our event pages! We've held wildlife art tours around Pittsburgh, hosted Portuguese street artist Bordalo II who traveled to Pittsburgh to support our campaign in creating a raccoon art piece as part of his Trash Animals series, attend and table at festivals, educate the public on wildlife, and more!
