Why is Bordalo so relevant to our campaign?
Well first off, we’ve made visual media a focal point of our campaign, through our traveling art show, from the day it was launched. But most important of all, Bordalo specializes in a specific form of street art, creating amazing “recycled” sculptures out of trash and junk. His specific focus on animals, nature and environmental issues in general, in particular his stunning “trash” sculptures of everyday animals often viewed as pests, and the play on words between “Scrap” art and “Scrap the Trap” gives him an ideal profile for conveying our message. “I was born in Lisbon, 1987. I belong to a generation that is extremely consumerist, materialist and greedy. With the production of things at its highest, the production of "waste" and unused objects is also |
at its highest. "Waste" is quoted because of its abstract definition: "one man's trash is another man's treasure". I create, recreate, assemble and develop ideas with end-of-life material and try to relate it to sustainability, ecological and social awareness.”
Bordalo II
Bordalo II is also a great fit with Pittsburgh, a city that has welcomed Street Art of all kinds in recent years and that is striving to integrate sustainability and environmental protection into its policies.
We contacted Bordalo several months ago and he and his assistant have kindly agreed to come here and create a one-of-a-kind piece for Scrap the Trap. His work has been attracting a lot of interest internationally and we are incredibly lucky to have him come here to help promote our campaign!
We are covering the costs to bring Bordalo here for 5 days in July. We are talking to a couple of potential sponsors, but will definitely need more contributions to costs, so if you would like to contribute to this one-time-only event, please visit our fundraising page at:

Any remaining funds will go to the Humane Animal Rescue Wildlife Center.
You really have to see Bordalo’s work to understand how incredible it is, so check out some examples here:
